Description
Kenyan Sand Boas for sale
Name / Scientific name: Kenyan Sand Boa (Eryx colubrinus)
Natural habitat: Native to the arid regions of East Africa, including Kenya and surrounding areas, Kenyan sand boas are adapted to sandy and rocky deserts where they burrow and spend much of their time hidden.
Recommended enclosure size and type: A PVC or wood enclosure of 2×1 feet is sufficient for adults, as these boas remain relatively small and enjoy burrowing. Plastic tubs can also work well, especially for younger snakes. Use a substrate that allows for burrowing, like aspen or sand/soil blends.
Heat gradient: Provide a warm area of around 90°F with a cooler side in the mid-70s. Kenyan sand boas do not require a large basking spot but benefit from a steady warm side for burrowing.
Humidity requirements: These boas thrive in low humidity, ideally around 20-30%. Avoid excessive misting; a shallow water dish is usually enough to maintain appropriate hydration without raising humidity.
Feeding on: Kenyan sand boas are carnivores and primarily eat small rodents. Feed juveniles every 5-7 days, and adults every 10-14 days, adjusting the frequency based on the snake’s size and condition.
