UNOPENED BABY BAGS FROM AFRICA
It’s finally that time of year… babies are hatching in the farms in Africa! These are CAPTIVE HATCHED (Farmed) babies – meaning our African suppliers collect wild gravid females to lay their eggs in captivity before being released again. That means these babies have brand new genetics from the wild, but they can essentially be treated as captive animals (with a nice quarantine period of course, as you would any new pickup).
Every year we offer bags of baby ball pythons straight out of the crate… UNOPENED and UNSORTED. You are the very first person in the USA to open up the bag and see if anything special got sent in the normal bags. You will not get anything crazy like a pied or something – but all the subtle stuff that doesn’t jump out of a pile of 5000 normals gets thrown right in. Per CITES regulations they are packed in bags of 10. Each bag you receive will have 10 babies in it.
I have seen people get yellowbellies, striped balls, crazy granites, high orange balls and all kinds of interesting stuff that the Africans did not sort out from the other normals. Think of where genes like Orange Dream, Red Stripe, Cypress, Cinder, Honey, Nanny and other subtle morphs came from… these were all originally just interesting dinkers picked out of normal bags such as these.
Why do we do this? It’s a win-win situation- each bag we don’t have to sort through makes our lives a little easier on shipment days (we’re getting around 5000 at a time typically), and you get the opportunity to pick through and hopefully get something cool.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Place your preorder now – the sooner the better as we process and ship in the order that orders are received. Once we have a projected arrival date, everybody who preordered will get an email updating them of the upcoming shipment. Then once they leave Africa on the plane, I will send a final email confirming that you will be ready to receive the shipment the day after they arrive here. Respond to that email so I know I can ship! Then once the crates arrive, bags will be pulled from the crates, dropped into shipping boxes immediately and sent off to their final homes. Total time the babies have spent in the bags at that point is around 3 days- it takes about 18 hours for them to reach the USA, then they are shipped overnight to you. We have done this almost every year for the past 10 years or so – it’s a safe process that goes very smoothly and everyone is typically very happy with their bags. I have customers who return almost every year to get more. It’s a fun experience and at worst, you have a group of 10 baby normals with fresh genetics from Africa.
