Description
Dumeril’s Boas for sale
Name / Scientific name: Dumeril’s Boa (Acrantophis dumerili)
Natural habitat: Native to the dry forests and semi-arid regions of Madagascar, Dumeril’s boas are ground-dwelling snakes that often seek shelter under leaf litter, logs, or burrows.
Recommended enclosure size and type: Juvenile Dumeril’s boas can be started in a 10-gallon equivalent sized terrarium or tub, while adults require an enclosure of at least 4x2x1.5 feet. A secure, well-ventilated enclosure with ample floor space and hiding spots is ideal, as these boas are primarily terrestrial. These snakes are shy so they tend to do better in tub/rack systems or PVC/wood cages than open glass terrariums.
Heat gradient: Provide a basking spot of 88-90°F with a cooler side around 75-78°F. The ambient temperature should be in the low 80s (°F) during the day.
Humidity requirements: Maintain moderate humidity levels of 50-60%, with an increase to around 70% during shedding. Occasional misting and a water bowl for soaking can help achieve these levels, especially in drier climates.
Feeding on: Dumeril’s boas are carnivorous and should be fed appropriately sized rodents or small mammals based on their size. Juveniles generally eat every 10-14 days, while adults can be fed every 3-4 weeks. Adjust feeding frequency based on the snake’s body condition and growth rate.
