Halmahera Blue Tongue Skinks for sale
Name / Scientific name: Halmahera Blue Tongue Skink (Tiliqua gigas gigas)
Natural habitat: Native to the tropical forests of Halmahera and other Indonesian islands, these skinks live in humid, warm environments with plenty of ground cover and hiding places.
Recommended enclosure size and type: Halmahera blue tongue skinks require a minimum of a 4x2x2-foot enclosure. A well-ventilated glass or PVC terrarium with ample floor space and hiding spots, such as cork bark and plants, is ideal.
Heat gradient: Maintain a basking spot of 90-95°F, with an ambient temperature around 80°F and a cool area in the mid-70s. These skinks also require a UVB light source to support healthy bone and metabolic function.
Humidity requirements: Halmahera blue tongue skinks need higher humidity than other blue tongue species, ideally between 70-80%. Regular misting and the addition of moist substrate, like coco fiber or sphagnum moss, help maintain these levels. A shallow water dish can provide additional humidity and a drinking source.
Feeding on: These skinks are omnivores and require a balanced diet of high-quality protein sources, such as insects, lean meats, and occasional eggs, along with leafy greens, vegetables, and fruits. Feed juveniles daily and adults every other day, adjusting portions as needed to maintain a healthy weight.
