Description
Sailfin Dragons for sale
Name / Scientific name: Sailfin Dragon (Hydrosaurus spp.)
Natural habitat: Sailfin dragons are native to the tropical forests and riverbanks of Southeast Asia, including the Philippines and Indonesia. They are semi-aquatic and need access to water and climbing areas.
Recommended enclosure size and type: These large lizards require a spacious enclosure. Adults need at least a 6x3x4-foot enclosure, though larger is better. An enclosure with both land and water areas is ideal, as they are strong swimmers. Vertical space for climbing and perching is also important.
Heat gradient: Provide a basking spot of 95-100°F, with an ambient temperature in the low 80s (°F) and a cooler area in the mid-70s. A UVB light source is essential for 10-12 hours per day to support healthy bone development.
Humidity requirements: Sailfin dragons need high humidity levels between 70-80%. Use regular misting or an automatic misting system to maintain humidity, and consider adding a large water dish or pool area in the enclosure, which can also serve as a swimming area.
Feeding on: Sailfin dragons are omnivores. Offer a mix of insects (like crickets, roaches, and mealworms), leafy greens, vegetables, and occasional fruits. Younger dragons tend to eat more insects, while adults consume more plant matter. Feed daily or every other day, adjusting based on age and size.
