Natural habitat: Native to the central and western United States, bullsnakes inhabit prairies, grasslands, and open woodlands. They are often found in dry, sandy, or rocky environments with plenty of ground cover and burrows.
Recommended enclosure size and type: A PVC or wood enclosure of at least 4×2 feet is recommended for adults, offering ample floor space and secure hiding spots. Plastic tubs can be suitable for juveniles or as a simpler housing option.
Heat gradient: Maintain a basking spot around 85-88°F, with a cooler side in the low to mid-70s. Ambient temperatures in the low 80s provide an appropriate gradient for thermoregulation.
Humidity requirements: Bullsnakes thrive in low to moderate humidity, ideally around 30-50%. Provide a shallow water dish and mist occasionally, especially during shedding periods.
Feeding on: Bullsnakes are carnivorous and typically thrive on a diet of appropriately sized rodents. Feed juveniles every 5-7 days, and adults every 10-14 days, adjusting the frequency based on their size and overall body condition.
